Our Resources

There are several computational and storage resources available to UCalgary researchers through the help of RCS. The resources available will scale based on demand and the need of the research community at UCalgary. These resources are shared among the research community at no cost to researchers. If a research project requires large HPC and storage resources, RCS can help researchers deploy their infrastructure and software in Compute Canada, an RCS partner.

Secure Computing Platform

The Secure Computing Platform is available for all University of Calgary researchers who have projects that use Level 4 data. This platform allows researchers to store, share, and process Level 4 data for their research projects in a secure environment.

High Performance Computing (HPC)

High Performance Computing (HPC) includes a variety of computing resources for processing Level 1 and Level 2 data available to UCalgary researchers, including local and national Linux clusters.

Virtual Machine Infrastructure

Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform that uses Apache CloudStack to allow users to quickly spin up Linux or other Non-Windows based virtual machines (VMs). RCS provides this service to help UCalgary researchers quickly set up and prototype research related software on premises at no cost. Services set up on DRI virtual machines can be accessed from the campus network and also the internet if required.

Storage Solutions

Research Computing Services (RCS) offers two storage solutions for research data. ResearchFS dedicated to storing data classified as Level 1 and Level 2, and the Secure Computing Data Storage (SCDS) intended for research projects that have Level 4 data, based on the University of Calgary's Information Security Classification Standard. Both solutions offer a geo-replicated copy for disaster recovery.

Our Partnerships

We also provide support to UCalgary and other researchers on the use of the Compute Canada, New Digital Research Infrastructure Organization (NDRIO) and WestGrid Resources. If you think that your project might work better with more resources than those locally available. We are happy to discuss your research needs in detail.
